Elias went to grab his phone to unplug the laptop, but the screen changed again. A new text document opened itself, typing on its own: “We are connected, Elias. Why did you stop watching?”

The room felt suddenly colder. His laptop screen, usually displaying his desktop wallpaper, was now showing a live feed—not of a fungi documentary, but of his own room, viewed from the angle of his webcam. But he was looking at the screen, and the image on the screen showed him looking away .

It wasn't a .mp4 or a .avi . It was just a text file. A playlist file.
