Sakiro Kewa Gozel Info

Born Şakir Deniz in Ağrı, Turkey, Şakiro was a master of the dengbêj —a traditional Kurdish singer-storyteller who performs epic tales and laments without the accompaniment of musical instruments. A member of the Redki tribe, he spent his life preserving the oral history of his people through song. After a life of travel and performance, he passed away in İzmir in 1996. In the rich tapestry of Kurdish oral tradition, few names command as much reverence as (1936–1996). Known as the " Şahê Dengbêjan " (King of Dengbêjs) and " Kewê Ribat " (The Rabat Partridge), Şakiro’s powerful, unamplified voice defined the dengbêj tradition for generations. Among his vast archive of stories and songs, " Kewa Gozel " stands out as a hauntingly beautiful example of his artistry. Who was Şakiro?
