The year is 2002. In a cramped apartment in São Paulo, Tiago is a "fansubber"—one of the unsung heroes who translates foreign films for the Brazilian underground. He spends his nights in the glow of a CRT monitor, syncing text files to grainy pirated videos.

One night, he receives an anonymous link on an IRC channel. The file is titled: VHS_99_BR_SUB_PROJ.rar . V/H/S/99 Legendas Portuguese (BR)

The first segment shows a punk band in 1999 breaking into an abandoned mall. As Tiago translates their dialogue into Portuguese, he notices something impossible: the lead singer is wearing a t-shirt from a Brazilian band that didn't form until 2005. He pauses the frame. In the reflection of a store window, he sees himself—sitting in his 2002 apartment—watching them. 2. " Suicide Bid " (The Living Translation) The year is 2002

The second segment follows a girl trapped in a coffin for a hazing ritual. Tiago types the Portuguese subtitles for her screams: "Me tirem daqui!" (Get me out of here!). As soon as he hits 'Enter,' a muffled scratching starts coming from underneath his own floorboards. The subtitles on his screen begin to change by themselves, shifting from Portuguese to an archaic, dead dialect he can't recognize. 3.
